Sprite Size Chart
Standard sprite sizes by game asset type — characters, NPCs, bosses, pickups and UI icons — for keeping a game on one consistent scale.
By asset type
| Asset | Common sizes | Guideline |
|---|---|---|
| Player character | 16×16 / 32×32 / 32×48 | One size for all humanoids |
| NPC / enemy | Same as player, ±1 step | Stay within one scale step |
| Boss | 2× the player footprint | Beyond 2× reads inconsistent |
| Pickup / item | 16×16 | Must read at inventory scale |
| UI icon | 16×16 / 24×24 | Multiples of 8 help menu layouts |
| Weapon (held) | 8×16 / 16×16 | Drawn as part of the character frame |
| Effect | 32×32 – 64×64 | Sparse pixels, fast timing |
Pick the character size first; everything else scales relative to it.
Non-integer scale factors between asset types are the #1 cause of 'off' game feel.
Next step
Set your character's canvas, then draw everything else to its yardstick.
